Apparently British Airways passengers may soon be facing the threat of yet another strike. This time the strike could be taking place during Christmas. This news comes as the Unite union continues to try and escalate the long running cabin crew dispute.

Right now, the airline and the union are fighting over allegations of bullying during the last 22 days of strikes that happened earlier this year. This problem is threatening to derail the peace talks that have been going on between the airline and the trade union.

Of course, the cabin crew feel like they may need to do another strike to get their point across. However, with every strike that happens, the union loses more and more public support. This is because these strikes continue to, not only disrupt British Airways, but their planes as well. Also, British Airways looks like the hero for doing everything in their power to keep people flying.

Tony Woodley, one of the joint Unite general sectaries, said in an email to 12,000 Unite members that fresh strike ballots could be on the way. Of course, Woodley admitted that he was very reluctant to call for a ballot so soon. However, he is likely to call for one for the simple fact that he is under a lot of pressure form Unite members to do so.

A strike over the Christmas holiday would really push the Unite union out of favor with the public. Although the union believes in what it is fighting for, they have to chose their battles. They want to call strikes when it will hurt the airline the most, but in turn, they are hurting families all over the UK.

Reports now show that the Queen will get to name Cunard Line’s new cruise liner. The naming ceremony for the ship is going to take place in Southampton on October 11. This will happen just before the ship sets sail on her maiden voyage. The first trip for this boat will be a 13-night cruise to the Canary Islands.

This is now the third Cunard ship to bear a name by the queen. In fact, the Queen also launched the line’s Queen Elizabeth II in 1967. She also named the Cunard’s current flagship, Queen Marry II, back in 2004. Thus, this is an event that happens quite often for Cunard.

The Queen had also attended the naming ceremony for Cunard’s original Queen Elizabeth. This was a ship that got launched in Clydebank, Scotland back in 1938.

Peter Shanks, who is the president and managing director of Cunard, said that the naming of a Cunard Queen is a very special occasion. This will be a historic event in the true sense of the word. The company is honored and proud that Her Majesty will name the new liner.

For those that keep up with the naming of boats, they will know that the Duchess of Cornwall also named a boat for the cruise line. She named the Queen Victoria back in 2007.

Overall, this is a very thrilling moment for Cunard. However, it has been stated by other companies that this is just a stunt that the company does to hype up the release of their boats. By having the Queen name their boat, they are able to release more information about it and really get the word out there.

According to reports, more than 80 British Airways cabin crew have been suspended and 13 sacked because of incidents related to a bitter dispute between the cabin crew and the airline. This new event threatens to erupt into more strikes in the coming months.

The Unite union said that the number of disciplinary cases taken against its members, following industrial action earlier this summer, was seriously complicating attempts to break the deadlocked row. This news follows warnings from the union that it is poised to seek backing for more strikes.

One spokesman for the union, said that the continuing rise in the number of unjustified suspensions and dismissals is seriously complicating any attempt to bring this long dispute to an end. In fact, this is just making things that much worse.

British Airways said that the vast majority of staff who have been suspended were now back at work. However, at least 13 have been sacked for some serious cases of misconduct, which are subject to appeal. Most of the suspensions have related to allegations from other employees of bullying and intimidation. It would be a dereliction of the airline’s duty of care as an employer to ignore this.

The airline carried on by saying that the investigation into any allegations are conducted under the company’s disciplinary procedures. This has already been in place for many years. It is fair, open and transparent and has been agreed on with the airline’s trade unions, which does include the Unite union.

Talks between the union and British Airways managers are expected to be held next week. Unite officials have warned that the fresh ballot for strikes could be held if there is no progress soon.

New reports now show that 21,000 people have had to be evacuated due to an Indonesian volcano that continues to spew up ash for miles around. Airplanes have been diverted from this area for more than two days in a row now. However, some experts say that this could just be the start of the problems.

Reports show that towering clouds of ash are being spewed out of Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra. The thousands of people that are living on this mountain’s slopes have been forced to head to emergency shelters and churches.

Many homes and fields around this area have been covered in a very heavy, gray soot. This is the same kind of soot that, when in the air, can cause problems for airplanes. People in the area have reported smelling the very thick smell of sulphur in the air.

For those that have not been keeping track, Mt Sinabung last erupted in 1600. Observers do not know this volcano’s eruption pattern and admitted that this place has not been closely monitored. Although this volcano will now be monitored more, it does not help the people that are having to deal with it now.

So far two people have already died due to the eruption. One died from a breathing problem and the other from a heart attack. Two people are currently suffering from injuries in road accidents.

Right now experts say that larger blasts could have the potential to obscure visibility. This would affect air traffic nearby. Already, many domestic flights heading to the provincial capital of Medan have been diverted.

Although New Zealand is in the process of trying to upgrade their adventure tourism rules, one British father is not happy. He says that more needs to be done in order to protect people that go on vacation in New Zealand. This is the same father that lost his 21-year-old daughter after she drowned while river boarding in New Zealand. He said that he will continue to fight for greater regulation of the country’s adventure tourism sector.

The father, Chris Jordan, found out that his daughter was killed while on an adventure tourism trip in New Zealand back in 2008. She was apparently body boarding in the Kawarau River Gorge near Queenstown.

Ever since then, Mr Jordan has led an effort to address the lack of regulations of companies that run these kids of tourism operations. He said that after she died he started to look into these companies. He said that he was just appalled at how these companies ran their outfits. There was no kind of training, no organization, no safety check, nothing.

This father’s concerns did go on to promoted John Key, the Prime Minister of New Zealaand, to launch a review of the sector. Because of this review, he is now recommending that a compulsory register of adventure tourism companies and a voluntary safety auditing scheme be used.

Although Mr Jordan welcomed any kind of change, he said that this was not enough. He said that a voluntary check is not going to get it done here. He also pointed out that he still does not see anything being done in regard to the companies that do not come up to standards.

The last thing that people want to hear when they are up in the air is that their plane is going to crash. Well this is just what happened to passengers on a recent British Airways flight. Apparently the people on the plane were told that they were about to make a crash landing out in the sea after hearing an emergency message. However, it was later found out that the message was simply played in error.

According to reports, there were some 275 people on the Boeing 747 plane that was flying from Heathrow to Hong Kong. A little ways into the flight, people heard a female voice come on the PA system that said that this was an emergency. The voice went on to say that they would shortly be making an emergency landing on water.

One of the passengers that was on the plane, Michelle Lord, age 32, said that people were just scared to death on the plane. Everyone was scared that there time was up and everyone was going to die. Another traveler said that it was the last thing that people wanted to be told when they are on a plane. No one wants to hear that their plane is about to crash.

Right now British Airways is investigating the incident but denied reports that the message was triggered in error by one of the pilots. The airline said that they do apologize to the passengers for the events that took place. The airline will look into this mishap and try to make sure that this does not happen again on any future flights.

According to reports, the ABTA says that there were some 1.8 million Brits that traveled outside the country for this past bank holiday. Although official numbers have yet to be released, the estimates show that people were ready to get out of the UK and get back into enjoying their holidays abroad.

These reports have so far suggested that Friday was the busiest day. However, over the whole weekend a ton of people chose to leave the UK to experience something a little different. Apparently some 420,000 people left by way of Heathrow airport alone. Another 250,000 left by way of Gatwick and 136,000 from Stansted.

Experts say that it is pretty clear why so many Brits left the UK this Bank Holiday. People have been missing out on their vacations over the past few years, thanks to the economic downturn. The people that did take vacations normally stayed within the UK itself. However, this year the economy is starting to pick back up and people are willing to start traveling again.

The reports go on to suggest that beach holidays were the most popular this year. A lot of people took the time to fly out to destinations like Turkey, Egypt, Spain, Cyprus, and the Greek islands. Of course, some people headed over to the United States as well. A lot of reports have shown that people traveled to such locations like New York City and Orlando.

Despite this, there were a few UK beach resorts that remained pretty busy. However, none of these resorts brought in travelers like some of these out-of-country resorts. Many Brits had cabin fever last year, and they were looking to get out of the country this year.

Soon, the chief executive of British Airways, Willie Walsh, will give his keynote address at the Caribbean Tourism Organization leadership strategy conference. This conference is going to take place on October 9-12 in Barbados.

Not only will Walsh be attending the meeting with other Caribbean ministers and commissioners, he will be giving his keynote speech at the Sunday morning conference. This speech is going to be on the future of intercontinental travel and the importance of partnerships between airlines and the destinations they serve. One of the highlights of the conference will be the British Airways hosted dinner that will take place on October 10 (Sunday).

Walsh said that this region has an economy that is dependent on tourism. Thus, this is a very important meeting to attend. He will be addressing people from university students to local business leaders. He went on to say that they have a long and proud history of serving the Caribbean. It is a history that goes back decades, and it is a favorite holiday destination for thousands of people every year.

Walsh also noted that he is looking forward to visiting Barbados. He wants to see how British Airways can continue to contribute to one of the world’s most premiere tourist destinations. He wants to discuss the challenges that everyone will be facing.

Mr Walsh said that, as the world emerges from the recession, everyone must be careful to ensure that policy making, in regard to things like taxation, encourages recovery in all regions of the world. This goes double for areas were international tourism is a critical mainstay of the economy.

New reports are now saying that the well known American Airlines has just recently been slapped with a $24.2 million penalty over maintenance lapses. Apparently these are the same maintenance problems that caused thousands of flights to be canceled back in 2008.

The Federal Aviation Administration just said on Thursday that American Airlines has failed to take steps to prevent chafing of electrical wires in the wheel wells of its McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series of jets. The Federal Aviation Administration said that the wiring could have led to fires and fuel tank explosions.

American Airlines has, of course, vowed to challenge this proposed penalty. The airline is known for routinely challenging Federal Aviation Administration penalties or negotiating the penalty to be reduced.

A spokesman for American Airlines, Tim Smith, said that the events happened more than two years ago. The airline believes that these actions are unwarranted. American Airlines is confident that they have a strong case and the facts will be heard out in court.

American Airlines officials said that this dispute is over a minor matter of leaving too much space between clips that held bundles of wire together. Smith said that passengers’ safety were never a threat because of these clips.

This new penalty, however, could just add to American Airlines’ financial and image problems. Right now American Airlines is well known for being the only American airline that still lost money in the second quarter. Thus, it is very likely that this news will not help the company’s image that much. It is also going to put more of a hurting on their wallets as well.

According to recent reports, the well known Scandinavian airline, SAS, has been revealed as Europe’s most on time carrier this summer. This now makes the second year in a row that this airline has been given this crown. Other reports go on to show that Ryanair was more punctual than British Airways.

Flightstats, which is known for monitoring flight arrival and departure times, found that more than 90 percent of SAS’s flights were on time during the period from May to July of this year. This carrier was also Europe’s most punctual airline back in 2009.

Of course, the good news for the airline did not stop there. According to more reports, SAS is not only the most punctual in Europe, it is the most punctual in the whole world. Now that is one thing that many airlines never get the chance to claim.

Other airlines did not fair so well in Europe. Ryanir was only able to post a punctuality of 69.18 percent, which turns out to be higher than British Airways’ 68.22 percent. However, both of these posted way better numbers than easyJet who only had some 52 percent of their flights arriving on time. The good news for SAS is that these are figures that consumers look at when choosing an airline.

In the wake of easyJet’s poor performance, the company’s founder Sir Stelios Haji Ioanno, has warned that he may revoke the “easy” brand name from the company. He said that the company needs to reduce their average early to just 15 minutes by October or they will lose their “easy” name. This could spell even more bad news for easyJet.
