Air Passenger Duty Tax Is Not Helpful Says Experts
by Isabel Taylor November 23rd, 2009
Different experts are now saying that the rise in the Air Passenger Duty tax simply does not add up. The government has recently chosen to increase this tax, but people like Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather say that this will do very little for the environment and will have negative impacts on the Caribbean economy.
Sarah Teather went on to point out that the Caribbean economy is very dependent on Brits to visit their islands when on holiday. However, this new increase in tax is more than likely going to keep people from traveling to the Caribbean.
Some experts point out that the government has increased this tax as a way to discourage people from flying. Thus, this new tax may be able to help the environment by getting people to travel less. The Friends of the Earth say that this new tax will give airlines a reason to want to fill up every flight before it leaves the airport.
However, other experts seem to disagree that this tax will be used to help the environment. Caribbean officials say that it makes no since to charge people more to travel to the Caribbean islands than it does to travel to the west coast of America. They point out that it sounds like the British government is working harder on trying to keep up a good relationship with American businesses than trying to save the environment. Overall, the plan just does not add up.
The increase in the tax has been hit hard be criticism ever since the government announced the plan. However, travelers are even more upset due to the fact that the government plans on raising the tax again next year.
