London’s only non-membership electric car rental company GoGo Electric has announced that most of their customers are early adopters would like to try out using electric cars.

The company, which was launched earlier this year, offers short-term rentals of the all-electric Mega e-City from its base in Brixton, and says that the petrol price increase during the summer has led to customers looking at cutting costs by traditional means.

Founder of the GoGo, Natalie Franklin, said that people based outside the congestion charge zone were adding up the costs of driving on London for the day, and working out hwo much they could save by hiring an electric car instead.

She pointed out that customers could avoid paying the congestion charge, parking fees and also fuel if they recharge for free at one of the cities recharge points, and the rental quickly starts to make economic sense.

Feedback from the company shows that many are using the hire to test the new technology, and the company forecasts that the new technology will become mainstream within the next few years, as many customers look at purchasing their own electric car as an option to drive around the centre of London.

The company has said that the biggest concern at this stage was that there were too few public recharging points, which London Mayor Boris Johnson has plans to address.

Franklin concluded by saying that better infrastructure was needed urgently in order to make driving an electric car more convenient for motorists and to take advantage of the savings, while helping cut greenhouse gas emissions.
