Avis win airport tender in South Africa
by Isabel Taylor November 16th, 2009
Car hire company Avis Rent A Car has won the tender from the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) for prime kiosk positions at the nine state-owned ACSA-controlled airports for the next five years, as well as additional space for car rental kiosks and parking.
CE of Avis, Wayne Duvenage said that this included ACSA providing the company with additional space at Tambo International Airport and an increase in the company’s kiosk space to 424m2.
The initial phase of the Tambo kiosk revamp was completed in August and included building one side of the kiosk, with the second phase of converting the old kiosk to the same standard as the new kiosk, already completed.
Duvenage said that the refurbishment included stripping and building new counters, ceilings, tiles and constructing an administration centre, which was located away from the kiosk which created further space constraints.
Duvenage added that the benefits of the new kiosk included more space to install more terminals, which will result in shorter customer queuing times as well as more parking spaces, which was desperately needed.
In the meantime, the company has also commenced upgrading facilities at Cape Town International Airport.
