Emirates Airbus Orders Delayed
by Stuart Parker November 13th, 2009
It now seems that Emirates has revealed that some of its Airbus A380’s that it has ordered, which were scheduled to arrive in the coming months, have been delayed. However, despite this delay, it is not ruling out the possibility of ordering even more. This may be done by trying to take over orders that other rival airlines are trying to stall on.
The Emirates Chairman and chief executive, Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, speaking just ahead of of next week’s Dubai Air Show, did not say just how many deliveries would have to be pushed back. He did say that he did know that there would be a bit of a delay.
He went on to say that Emirates is considering increasing its order for the super jumbo jet. The carrier has a total of 58 of these planes on order as of now, and this is more than any other airline. Five of these big jets have already been delivered.
Emirates has reported a fiscal first half profit of nearly $205 million, more than double its earnings from the same period last year. Although these numbers are good no matter what the economy is like, these numbers look amazing considering that many other airlines are reporting nothing else but millions of dollars in losses.
Of course, Emirates is not just following through on its commitments to Airbus, as they are also the leading operator of Boeing’s twin engine wide body 777 jet. Judging by what has been going on recently with Emirates, this seems to be an airline that is up and coming, and there does not seem to be much that can stop it. Not even the recession has been able to slow down its growth.
