Holidaymakers Could Enjoy Cheap Travel for a decade due to Recession
by Stuart Parker November 10th, 2009
Some experts say that holidaymakers may be looking forward to cheap travel for more than a decade due to the current global recession. Overall, this global recession has changed the way that people go about traveling. Thus, it will take a long time, if ever, for the travel industry to get back to what it used to be like.
Families that travel can expect to save several hundreds of pounds every year because of the great deals being offered, not only by airlines, but by hotel groups as well. One company has already estimated that the average British family spent nearly £2,092 on a holiday this year. This is about £257 less than what was seen in 2007.
Of course, some experts point out that this big fall in spending is due to families staying in less comfortable hotels than what they are use to. Many families are also now taking the time to search for the cheapest flights that they can find. The days of overpaying for traveling are over.
Now that customers are doing this, it has led to a big discounting war with a lot of companies. Many companies can no longer get away with overcharging for plane tickets. If they want to sell any kind of tickets, they have to bring down their prices, thus, customers are benefiting from it.
Reports show that prices were about 20 to 30 percent lower this year than what was seen just a year earlier. This is a result that is expected to be seen for a whole decade. People have been trading down and sticking with economy. The travel industry now has to find a way to cope with this.
