Central London Motorists May Get to Wave and Pay for Parking
by Amy Drew October 30th, 2009
It now seems like people that live in Central London, or the people that are visiting that area, may be able to wave and pay to park their car. This will be due by waving a credit or debit card at a meter instead of using the traditional way to pay.
This new idea, which comes from the Westminster Council, comes as the government moves to encourage the use of cashless payment for transport across all of the UK. Not only is it safer for people to carry less cash nowadays, but it also makes it easy for locals, as well as tourists, to get around.
Experts are saying that, thanks to this wave and pay technology, motorists from all over will not have to carry cash or worry about using their pin number in parking lots. This is something that many travelers, as well as locals, to London have worried about in the past.
The motorists will be using the no contact credit cards, which will pretty much simply be swiped across a magnetic reader fitted onto 20 different machines in West End by early next year. This is a lot quicker and a lot easier than trying to pay by cash or taking the time to put in a pin number.
If the meters turn out to be successful, then they will be fitted throughout Westminster. It seems that Southampton is planning to get these kinds of meters as well. However, no kind of release date has been given to when these meters will come out for sure. Thus, local motorists and tourists will just need to keep their eyes open for this new technology.
