Reports now show that security guards were able to stop an attempted hijacking of an EgyptAir flight from Istanbul to Cario just last week. The security guards were apparently able to overpower a man that was reportedly threatening crew members with a knife, according to a security official for EgyptAir.

The Sudanese man had actually started to threaten crew members with one of the knifes that he got from his in-flight meal. The security official said that the man demanded that the flight be diverted to Jerusalem. The guards that were on the flight at the time were able to detain the man. Reports show that no one was hurt in the event that took place on the plane.

An official for the airline said that the flight was able to land safely at the Cario airport. The Turkish aviation authorities did not have any kind of immediate information to give out on the incident. However, it has been suggested that more information could be released later on.

This is not the only attempted hijacking that has taken place this year. It seems like the airline industry is just unable to stay away from trouble. Not only is the airline industry busy dealing with the ongoing recession and trying to get people flying again, they are also having to deal with people trying to hijack planes. Overall, these attempted hijackings, although not the airline industry’s fault, do not look good for airlines’ current situations. Many travelers have already found the benefits of driving and taking high speed rails over flying. The last thing the airline industry needs is another reason for customers to make the switch.
