A Scottish man accused of stabbing his girlfriend while on holiday will to to trial this week and faces up to 11 years in jail.

Authorities in the Canary Islands will demand the sentence against James Gilmour for attempted murder.

The 28 year-old is accused of stabbing his girlfriend Lindsay Green in the back as they were on holiday with 13 friends in Puerto Rico on Gran Canaria in April.

Lindsay’s injuries included a punctured lung and spent five days in hospital.

Prosecutors will read a statement to the court next week that will claim he stabbed Lindsay and chased her from the holiday flat threatening to kill her, when other holidaymakers overpowered Gilmour.

Authorities also want Gilmour to pay Lindsay about £6,000 in compensation, as her injuries were so severe that she was off work for 28 days.

Witnesses say that Gilmour and Lindsay had been arguing before he allegedly stabbed her in the back, with the source saying that it started off as a fun break in the sun, bvut then Lindsay and Gilmour had a fight and he went missing for two days.

When Gilmour returned he knifed her, causing blood to spill everywhere.  Lindsay did not realise that she had been stabbed, but thought she had just been punched.

It has been reported that the 20 year-old ignored medical advice by checking out of hospital to be in court to see Gilmour in the dock, but she collapsed and was rushed back to hospital.
