Lufthansa Set to Re-Offer In Flight Internet
by Amy Drew October 14th, 2009
It now seems that, just following a new deal with Panasonic, Lufthansa will be relaunching its FlyNet system. The FlyNet system is Lufthansa’s on board broadband Internet service that is offered to its passengers. Starting in the middle of 2010, customers will be able to communicate and use the internet thanks to the relaunching of this new system.
About three years ago, Lufthasa was among one of the very first carriers to offer this kind of in flight broadband. However, by the end of 2006, the carrier had to scrap this service when Boeing dismissed its Connexion product. However, following the failed in flight internet of years ago, lessons were learned and a new development in on-board connectivity has come forward. This makes it cheaper, lighter and, for the most part, easier to install.
Now Lufthansa will be launching Pannsonic’s brand new exConnect service. This new service will allow people to use their smart phones to send SMS messages and transfer data while in the area. The CEO and chairman of Lufthansa, Wolfgang Mayrhuber, said that Lufthansa customers can look forward to a top tier in flight service. On these long haul routes, Lufthansa will be offering business travelers a chance to stay connected even when in the air. The is perfect for the business world of today, where every second is very critical.
Soon Lufthansa hopes that this new service will gradually become available on all Lufthansa’s long haul flights around the world. However, when it first launches it will only be available on certain flights. A list of which flights will come out closer to launch.
