Despite the big economic downturn that has been hitting the travel industry hard, there have been some carriers that have still managed to keep customers happy. Apparently one such airline happens to be Bmi, which just recently won Best Short Haul Leisure Airline in the Conde Nast Readers’ Travel Awards.

Bmi has said that they are very delighted to be the recipient of the award. The carrier goes on to say that they know now that travelers are happy with the amount of work that they put into every flight. However, Bmi did note that they continue to try and improve other flights and still strive to put there best foot forward.

Reports show that Bmi was able to win the award against some pretty stiff competition. In fact, Bmi was able to beat out other airlines like British Airways, KLM, and Swiss International Air Lines for the award. Experts point out that this is not an easy award to win, and this goes double now due to the current state of the economy, where many airline are looking to cut corners.

Conde Nast Readers’ Travel Awards have been running since way back in 2001. These awards are voted on by the readers of the very popular travel magazine. Bmi was able to score a total of 87.37 percent in the category that it won. The carrier was also runner-up in the Best Business Airline Awards as well.

Of course, it has not been all good news for Bmi lately. Recently the carrier did announce that it would be reducing the number of weekly flights that it has between Luton and Isreal from 14 to 12 for its winter schedule. These cuts are coming due to a slowdown in passenger traffic.
