It now appears that the CEO of British Midlands Airways, better known as Bmi, has now been questioned by United, one of the UK’s largest labor unions. As most people already know, Bmi was recently taken over by Lufthansa, and United wants to now discuss the future of the company.

Right now United is thinking of following up reports that suggest that Lufthansa is inviting interested parties to carry out the due diligence process. This could actually lead to the break up or eventual sell off of Bmi.

Brian Boyd, the United national officer, said that they have written a letter to Bmi’s CEO Nigel Turner. They asked him to call on the company to ensure that the workers at the airline are not the last to know about their futures. He would hope that any decision should guarantee job security and/or protection of existing terms and conditions.

Mr Boyd went on to say that workers always seem to be the very last people to know when businesses make decisions that could threaten their work lives. This includes situations like at Zoom airlines and XL where workers were told simply by e-mail or just given an hour’s notice that they will no longer have a job. This is something that Boyd views as completely unacceptable and is no way to treat employees. They have a right to know beforehand that their jobs could be coming to and end, just like the employees are suppose to tell companies weeks before they choose to quit.

However, no more information was given out and no more comments have been received by Nigel Turner. More information should unfold on this story in the near future.
