Woman Sets Fire To British Tourist In Self-Defence
by Fiona Scott August 10th, 2009
A Greek woman has become an overnight hero after setting fire to a British tourist’s genitals, allegedly in self-defence.
The woman has been cheered for her act and is now defending charges of endangering private property and causing bodily injuries to a 23-year-old drunken British tourist.
It is claimed that she set fire to the man’s genitals in a nightclub on the Greek island of Crete after the man allegedly exposed himself at a number of women, and tried to force her to touch him.
The incident is said to have occurred in Mallia, a coastal resort area popular with British tourists who party and drink heavily.
It is alleged that the man pulled down his trousers and waived his genitals at several girls before targeting the 26-year old Greek woman, forcing himself at her and asking her to touch his genitals. She repeatedly asked the man to leave but when he wouldn’t she poured the alcoholic drink Sabucco over his penis. When that failed the woman set fire to his genitals, local media reported.
The man remains in a private medical clinic with second-degree burns in Heraklion, the capital of Crete.
The magistrate has agreed free the woman pending trial, indicating that they have accepted her act as ‘justifiable self-defence’, the Telegraph Reported.
Last month, the British Government teamed up with Greek tourism officials and police in a move to crack down on organised ‘bar-hopping’ tours and doctored drinks to help prevent young Britons getting into alcohol related trouble.
