Airplane Skids Off Runway In Koh Samui, Thailand

An ATR-72 flying between the seaside resort of Krabi and the holiday island of Koh Samui skidded off the runway upon landing, injuring passengers.

The Bangkok Airways aircraft had arrived on the island, which is located in the south-east of Thailand and is popular with European tourists.

Airlines spokesman Nandhika Varavan said “I can confirm that there was just an incident with our aircraft from Krabi to Samui that landed and skidded off the runway,”

“We managed to evacuate all passengers and so far there are no deaths but some passengers are wounded,” she said, without giving a specific number.

The airline flies the route between the two popular tourist destinations using 70-seater ATR72 aircraft.

Koh Samui is a popular destination for British and American travellers who go there to enjoy its fine beaches, seafood and laid-back atmosphere.
