Many British tourists are planning holidays abroad this summer and are planning to head to France. Brits are now being warned to watch out about the new environmentally friendly fuel that is on sale in French petrol stations. Reports now show that this new fuel can damage cars and even cause them to breakdown and not work.

These reports go on to say that people who love riding down the winding roads of the Dordogne run the risk of unwittingly ruining their car’s engine by filling it up with this just recently introduced bio fuel. The petrol, which is called 95-E10, is a mixture of regular unleaded fuel and ethanol. This is a fuel that is perfect for new cars, but is very damaging to vehicles registered before the year 2000.

This new bio fuel sits right by the very commonly used and very similarly named unleaded Euro 95 at many stations around France. Although people in France have been made very aware of the difference, due to awareness campaigns, people from outside the country have been facing bad problems by picking the wrong pump.

Any British motorist that is heading to France needs to pay attention to the different fuels. The new bio fuel is 90 percent regular unleaded fuel and 10 percent ethanol. Ethanol is very corrosive and wears away the metal fuel tanks that are common in cars registered before 2000. This leads to many leaks. Many newer cars have plastic tanks, and therefore are not affected by the corrosion at all. Thus, all drivers heading to France need to be aware of the year of their car and the different types of gas.
