British Airports Authority Sees Passenger Numbers Decline

The number of people that are using the major UK airports has finally fallen to the lowest level it’s been in nine months in June. This data comes from some new figures that were just replaced by the British Airports Authority.
The figures go on to show that only 12.7 million passengers passed through all of its airports last month. This is a reduction of 5.9 percent when compared to the same time last year. However, the British Airports Authority says that this now represents the strongest underlying figure since last September, and it could mean that the worst could be over now.
Domestic traffic for the British Airports Authority was down 8.1 percent in June. Their European scheduled flights were reduced by 2.88 percent, and travelers on North Atlantic routes were down 9.4 percent as well.
Out of all the airports under the British Airports Authority, Edinburgh was the only one that showed a rise in traveler numbers, which was up by 1.4 percent. This makes its third consecutive month of growth.
Heathrow recorded only a modest fall of 3.1 percent, while Gatwick fell by 7.6 percent. Out of the British Airports Authority’s seven airports, Stansted reported the worst fall of 11.5 percent. Glasgow and Aberdeen dropped by 10.9 and 9.8 respectively.
During all of this, the British Airport Authority remains in a battle against the Competition Commission’s decision to make them sell three of their airports. This includes Gatwick, Stansted and either Glasgow or Edinburgh. The British Airports Authority is now choosing to fight them on the decision, after they did not get the price that they wanted for selling the airports.
