Victoria Station In London Closed Due to Rain
by Stuart Parker July 9th, 2009
The Victoria station in London had to be evacuated just the other day due to flash flooding. The overground services from the station were also disrupted as water flowed into the main concourse.
Of course, this is a problem that was happening all over. Edgware Road station was also closed on the Bakerlook and Circle and District line. The Paddington station on Circle, District and Bakerlook lines were closed as well. The Hyde Park Corner station had to be shut down as well due to the flooding. All of these reports came in from the Transport of London.
A Met Office forecaster said that their had been a lot of downpours with thunder lighting and even some hail all over London. Due to the amount of rain that has come down, it has caused a lot of localized problems like flooding that travelers need to be aware of.
He went on to say that it is reasonable to assume that some of the areas of the South East, London and the Midlands have been getting an inch of rain in a single hour. In some cases, it has been more like two or even three inches. This means that some areas of London could be getting a whole months worth of rain within a single day.
The Environment Agency placed out three river flood warnings. It said that it expected that surface flooding may cause additional problems as storm drains become blocked up.
However, travel is not the only thing that is being rained out in London. At Buckingham Palace, thousands of guests that were attending the Queen’s first summer garden party were forced to take cover in tents as a storm broke out.
