Carrentals.co.uk Shows Results from Service Station Survey
by Fiona Scott July 8th, 2009
With summer already here, UK travelers are preparing to hit the road, and with that comes stops at service stations along the way. One survey that was given by Carrentals.co.uk shows that 1 in every 6 people that took part in the survey say that they would like to have an illicit romantic liaison at a service station. On top of this, 1 in every 20 people say that they have already done so.
The car hire comparison site, Carrentals.co.uk, questioned 2,3000 people in the survey. Although there was a pretty wide range of complaints about service stations, the top two were of cleanliness and prices.
Gareth Robinson at Carrentals.co.uk, who is the managing director, said “This survey was designed to look at just what people think of motorway service stations, particularly the prices charged, and also the experiences they have had in them. The level of illicit romantic liaisons came as a complete surprise to us, but when you look at the most popular locations they all tend to be around the main travel routes through the country so service stations must make convenient, and secret, meeting places.”
Of course, the high prices were one of the key issues that everyone shared. In fact, 60% pf all the people who took part in the survey said that they wish that service stations would lower their prices. The survey also showed that 53% of people spent around £26 – £50 per visit to a service station.
Gareth also noted, “With many people being more cautious with money and opting against an overseas holiday, this summer is set to see more travellers hitting Britain’s motorways than ever before, but the main complaint that came from the survey was the prices charged in service stations. In the current climate and with the school holidays just around the corner, just driving from a to b can be expensive for parents, so the best option is to stock up on snacks and magazines before you set off.”
