Anyone that lives in France or is thinking about traveling to France will be happy to hear about the news that France has lowered its sales tax. The hope is that this will help to create new jobs as more customers come into restaurants to enjoy the cut. By passing these perks on to customers, many restaurants in France hope that it will bring in more customers during these troubled times.

Many restaurants all across Paris earlier this week displayed special signs in their windows. These signs announced savings on everything from crème brulee to charcuterie platters. This is all do to the VAT dropping from 19.6 percent all the way up to 5.5 percent.

A lot of food places that specialize in moules frites also dropped their prices. Many people saw discounts on coffees, which were down as much as €1, and others even saw discounts on things like Big Mac meals.

Most of the local shop owners are hoping that this will help to fight off the crisis in the industry. Due to the lack of travel, these restaurants are not getting as much business as they normally get this time of year. Normally a lot of tourists stop in to try new French food that they have never had. However, due to the economy, fewer people are traveling, and the ones that are refuse to spend money eating out. Lowering the tax is all part of a plan to get people back into these restaurants.

However, no one knows yet just what kind of impact this will really have for the restaurant industry and if it will bring in travelers.
