Soon BMI will be starting scheduled services between the UK and Bagdad. The carrier already operates many routes in the Middle East, but has met with the Iraqi government to get the wheels in motion.

The meeting, which included over 300 delegates with Iraqi business interests, took place in London. The meeting was even attended by the Iraqi Prime Minister.

The goal is to get business and commerce between these two countries to grow. BMI says that the only way to do this is to make sure that normal transport routes are in place. The ability to be able to travel by air from Baghdad to Heathrow, or the other way around, could prove to be all these countries need to really open up the gates for great growth. They also hope that this will jump start the country’s economy by getting business ties, as well as investments, back to normal.

Iraq, right now, is surrounded on four sides by countries that already have services to and from Heathrow. These places carry passengers, as well as cargo. Both the UK airlines and the Iraqi government do look forward to working together. However, nothing can take place until the UK Government permits UK aircrafts to fly into Iraq.

However, BMI thinks that the UK Government will be happy to rebuild ties to this area of the world. Increases routes to this area is a great way to bring economy back up to normal. It is still unknown when the UK government will get back to BMI with the details of the permit. However, BMI has high hopes and expects that a response will be given sooner than later.
