To help out some of the small to medium sized UK companies, British Airways has now launched a multi million pound package that will aim to give these companies some help. This new package is allowing British Airways to offer 5,000 return flights from the UK to help win businesses abroad. This is said to be worth up to £15 million.

These flights are part of a package that British Airways is launching with UK Trade and Investment, as well as British American Business. Other measurements that will be included in this package are said to be announced within the next six months time.

British Airways has also called on other larger UK companies to help provide products and services to these smaller and medium size businesses, even if all the bigger companies can offer is expertise. The CEO of British Airways, Willie Walsh, says that these small and medium size businesses are the main backbone of the British economy. He went on to say, when they are hurting badly, the UK is hurting badly. He also pointed out that about 120 of these types of businesses close every week. Unless this is stopped, the UK economy looks to worsen further.

This is one of the first times that British businesses are being asked to pull together to help fight off a common threat (the recession). Lord Davies of Abersock said that it can be hard for small businesses to break into new markets. It is important that larger companies help them to do this, not only to show support for fellow Britons, but also to show support for Britain as a whole.
