Australia police say that a laser beam was aimed into the cockpit of a Ryanair airplane. This took place while the Ryanair plane was making an approach landing at Klagenfurt airport. This incident occurred late Monday.
The Australia police are taking this matter very serious, as the laser beam that was shinned into the cockpit could have very easily blinded the pilot as he was trying to make his landing. Not only would this have been dangerous for the people on the plane, but for the people on the ground as well.
The Ryanair plane had made its way from Frankfurt all the way to Klagenfurt airport. On board the plane were 34 passengers and five crew members. Although the laser was shinned into the plane, the pilot was able to land the plane without any kind of problem.
The laser beam that was shinned into the cockpit was green, and was aimed right for the cockpit says Australian police. Peter Leber, the police spokesman, said that the location of the beam is thought to have come from about 10 kilometres (or about six miles) from the airport. This would mean that the laser beam came from the town of Granfenstein-Thon. However, there is no trace of suspects just yet.
The police are upset with this, because the laser beam could have caused many problems for the airplane. Not only could it have blinded the pilot, but it could also help guide surface to air systems. This would mess up the landing of the plane as well. Police want to stop this problem from happening again and expect to find the person behind it.
