A 20 year old gunman stormed a parked CanJet airliner Sunday night, which lead to an 8 hour standoff. The hostage incident happened in Motego Bay, Jamaica. The Jamaican police are happy to report that there were no injuries during the incident.
The young man had rushed onto a packed CanJet airliner to take the 159 passengers and 8 crew members hostage. The man had forced his way past all the security checkpoints and boarded the waiting jet.
All of the passengers who were on board, including two crew members, were let off the plane in almost no time at all. However, the remaining six crew members who were on the plane were held hostage until 6:40 a.m Monday.
Although relatives of the young gunman were brought in to negation with him, no agreement could be meet. The father of the young man says that it was very likely all part of a robbery. Many police agree after hearing that many of the passengers were told to give up their money. When no negotiations could be meet, the Jamaica Defense Force Counter Terrorism Operations Group entered the cabin to take control of the situation.
The man had run onto the plane and told the crew members to take him to Cuba. This charter flight had taken off from Halifax, Nova Scotia, and was just doing a scheduled stop in Jamaica before it made its way down to Cuba anyway. The Jamaican police say that this situation could not of been handled much better due to the fact that no one was hurt during the hold up.
