Thomas Cook Sends 3rd Plane to Newcastle Airport
by Amy Drew December 29th, 2008
The airline arm of Thomas Cook, a travel company, has decided to add another plane to their base at the Newcastle Airport in order to offer more holiday choices to their customers. With adding this Boeing 757-200, which has the capacity for 235 passengers, the company will be the biggest package holiday operator at the airport. This 3rd aircraft also means that about 70,000 more seats will be made available from the Newcastle Airport for the summer of next year.
With this addition, the carrier will also offer new destinations, including Skiathos and Santorini, as well as Kefalonia, which are all Greek islands. Other destinations like Larnaca are going to benefit from 2 weekly flights with the new plane as well. The new aircraft from Thomas Cook will allow about 11 night holiday services, along with the traditional 7 or 14. Destinations that are also included with the addition of the aircraft include: Barcelona Reus, Zante, Dalaman, Sharm el Sheikh, Bodrum, Crete, Paphos, and Tenerife.
Pete Constanti, the Chief Executive Office of Mainstream Travel for Thomas Cook UK & Ireland, said that they have an extensive flight program from the Newcastle Airport already, which transports holidaymakers to over 30 destinations. He continued that he is happy the airline is able to introduce the 3rd Boeing to serve this region and offer more holiday choices. This is going to make travel more convenient and easier for people who live in the North East, he added.
David Laws, the Chief Executive of Newcastle Airport, also added that this addition is great news for the airport and those who live in the region, and they know that the extra capacity is going to be popular with the locals.
