On Saturday, assistance was requested of police when angry parents began to protest after a flight to Lapland to see Santa had to be canceled. The flight was canceled due to bad weather conditions in the destination, and the pilot would not fly the aircraft because of that.

Locked in an office by themselves, officials hid from an oncoming uproar that broke out by the 160 or more passengers that paid £400 each to take a trip to the home of Santa. It all began about 5 am at the Manchester Airport while excited children and their parents/grandparents started arriving for 2 scheduled flights. The tension started to mount after they were told that the flights had to be delayed due to Transun, the tour operator, deciding to cancel a plane in favor of a bigger one.

However, the tension turned to anger when, nearly 4 hours later, the parents were told that the tour was canceled due to the pilot refusing to fly a bigger plane in severe weather conditions. Making matters worse, the airline operator nor Transun were available to let passengers know what was happening. Police were then called to escort the passengers out of the airport, restoring calmness.

Sixty-seven-year old Ian Edisbury and his 67-year old wife, Jean, were taking their grandchildren, 8-year old Megan and 6-year old Nathan, on the trip. Edisbury wanted to know how he was suppose to tell his grandchildren that their flights were canceled, and they won’t get their chance to see Santa, which is something they were looking forward to all year. Little Nathan burst into tears, Edisbury said.
