Etihad Airways Lunches Moscow Service
by Howard Williams December 4th, 2008
On Tuesday, Etihad Airways launched their maiden Moscow service from their Abu Dhabi Airport base. The flights, which are served 5 times a week, will be followed with new flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan, bringing a total of 50 destinations served by the airline, which include destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and the Middle East.
Moscow is going to be the 11th destination of Etihad Airways in their European flight network, which includes flights to Frankfurt, Milan, Munich, Manchester, Paris, Geneva, Brussels, Minsk, Dublin, and London. Etihad Airways said that they will be using 2-class A320 planes, which have the capacity to transport 140 passengers (120 economy seats and 20 business seats) to operate the Moscow route.
James Hogan, the Chief Executive of Etihad Airways, said that Russia is increasing as an important destination to travel to from the United Arab Emirates, as the countries continue to increase their relationships in trading. Since the airline announced the route earlier this year, he continued, they have seen a strong interest in Moscow as a destination from both United Arab Emirates travelers and those customers who pass through the Abu Dhabi Airport from worldwide cities.
Russia is the world’s biggest country in surface area, spanning 10 time zones. The country’s natural resources, gas and oil, have brought economic growth in the country, and Moscow is the economic, educational, transportation, financial, and political center of Russia. Moscow is also the home to the biggest amount of billionaires worldwide, and there are many offices and branches of multi-national corporations there as well.
