Flybe, a regional budget airline, has announced that they will be increasing their services from the Scottish Aberdeen Airport. They have already started to operate 3 new flights from their Scottish airport base to Jersey, Southampton, and Gatwick, which are in addition to services from Aberdeen to Leeds Bradford, Belfast, Exeter, and Birmingham airports. The carrier is also offering services to Sumburgh with Longanair, their new franchise partner.

Mike Rutter, the Chief Commercial Officer of Flybe, commented that they have plans for Scotland over the long term, and will keep exploring all the possibilities for extending their services by anticipating the public’s travel needs, as well as enhancing and adapting their operations in response to their customers’ wants.

On Tuesday, Flybe achieved a benchmark at the Aberdeen Airport, sending their first ever flight from the airport to Gatwick run by their Aberdeen crew. Captain Aidan Bell, First Officer Alex van der Veer, Laura Anne Stevenson, Nicola Redgrave, and Gary Duncan crewed the flight, who all live in the city. Rutter said that they have always stressed their commitment of enhancing regional economies through their operations. They are also keen on cultivating local employees, he continued, so it was delightful to reach the point of that first Aberdeen crewed flight.

Flybe has reinforced their green credentials as well, through a new environmentally sensitive Kilfrost de-icing fluid that, they say, will greatly reduce their carbon footprint. The carrier has also invested £2billion in new planes in order to develop a fleet that, they claim, will be one of the most fuel efficient and youngest worldwide by the end of next year.
