Eurostar has celebrated a huge boost in demand from travelers in the region after their first year of operating St Pancras International, which is the freshly restored terminal specially for High Speed 1, the first high-speed rail line in the United Kingdom.

The number of travelers from the East Midlands, North-East, and Yorkshire rose 100%, while the passenger numbers from the West Midlands and Greater Manchester increased by over 50%. The growth of travelers demonstrates that they are taking advantage of the connections between Eurostar and domestic train operators. It also shows that this offers better punctuality and higher frequencies than air services in the regional area.

Eurostar offers fares to the Continent with National Express East Anglia, Virgin Trains, East Midland Trains, Chiltern Railways, Hull Trains, London Midland, National Express East Coast, First Capital Connect, and First Great Western. Return fares start as low as £67 from Luton and get as high as £89 from Glasgow.

Travelers are making the switch to Eurostar for many reasons, including good value, a lower impact on the environment, and higher service frequencies, says Richard Brown, the Chief Executive of Eurostar. They are delighted to see the growth, which makes evident that rail in high-speed can provide an alternative means of transportation for short journeys throughout the United Kingdom, as well as for travel to the mainland, he added.

Eurostar also celebrated the anniversary of its first carbon neutral rail journey this past week, which started operating on November 14th of last year.
