It now appears that at least sixty people have been killed and a further 120 injured in a train crash in the Indian state of West Bengal. The accident happened when a speeding passenger express hit a stationary train that was waiting at a station in the town of Sainthia.

The impact of these two trains sent the roof of the coach into a footbridge above the tracks. There were a number of trapped passengers who were freed from the wreckage by emergency workers using gas-powered cutters and other tools.

As of right now, no one knows what caused the crash. However, there is some speculation that it may have been caused by some faulty signaling. This is now the second major railway accident in West Bengal this year. Back in May, almost 150 people died when a Bombay-bound passenger train actually derailed and was hit by a goods train.

Some witnesses that saw the crash said that they were just about to board the train when they heard a big scream. A man said that there was going to be a crash. A witness said that after they heard that they clung on to a bar by their feet, adding that they heard a massive bang and most of the people in their carriage died.

Most officials say that the train was packed with commuters that were heading back to work after spending a weekend with their families. Rescuers were able to recover 56 bodies from the crash scene. 125 people are said to be injured. The two drivers of the express were among the people who died.
