Around the globe it’s becoming more and more apparent that now is the time for change. It’s time for companies to work with communities to decrease the amount of waste they produce. Whether it’s trash than has to be taken to a landfill or carbon emissions that need to be reduced large corporations like Hilton Hotels are taking action.

Recently the Hilton Hotels operating in South Africa announced that they would be joining in with other locations in the multi-national chain to combat both short term and long term environmental issue. As part of the over 3000 Hilton locations 74 countries the locations in South Africa can do a lot to help the company succeed in reaching their goals.

Based on thousands of surveys and assessments Hilton has determined what needs to be done if the company wants to reach a level of sustainability. Through visiting hundreds of locations around the world and through thousands of customer and employee surveys Hilton has determined that their goals that need to be reached by 2014 include reducing energy consumption, Carbon emissions, and waste by up to 20%. In addition the company hopes to reduce the amount of water used by 10%.
