David Beckham Pins British Sporting Hopes on Andy Murray at Wimbledon
by Howard Williams June 30th, 2010
It now appears that David Beckham is pinning his British sporting hopes on Andy Murray and a win at Wimbledon. This news comes after David watched England’s hopes of winning the World Cup get crushed by Germany.
David Beckham, the former England captain, sent Andy Murray a text message just recently to congratulate him on his resounding victory against Sam Querrey on Monday. This British sports star won his third successive quarter final place after defeating the American 18th seed in straight sets. The tennis star said that he was delighted to have received the message from Beckham.
Murray went on to say on Twitter, thanks for all the good luck and well done messages today. Always nice to get one from David Beckham.
One source close to the tennis star added that David’s always been very supportive of Andy, watching his games whenever he can. They have met several times in the past and keep in contact. Andy was delighted to hear from him this week.
Just last week, Murray named Beckham as the most famous person he had ever met. This message came the day after Beckham watched in despair from the dressing room in Bloemfontein and England received an ignominious 4 -1 beat down from Germany.
Murray will now be facing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is the French 10th seed. However, a Wimbledon spokesman said that there are a lot more clouds around compared to recent days. They have also seen their first outbreaks of rain of the championships so far. There is a 20 percent risk of showers on Wednesday, but the main emphasis is on a lot of fine weather during the day with some bright or sunny spells.
