Finally it seems that the world’s longest tennis match has finally come to an end at Wimbledon as of Thursday. At the end of the intense battle, John Isner claimed the incredible fifth set of a three day epic flight against Nicolas Mahut 70-68. The battle went on for 11 hours and five minutes on Court 18.

John Isner, the American 23rd seed, was able to end the contest with a backhand passing shot. This took place after the match finally resumed at 59-59 in the deciding set after it had been stopped due to bad light on Wednesday.

After winning, Isner said that he was a little bit tired. He said that people can play a match like this, with an atmosphere like this, and they do not feel tired. The crowd was just fantastic. Mahut is an absolute warrior. He said that the wanted to share the day with him as it was an absolute honor to play against him. He looks forward to playing against Mahut in the future.

Isner completed a 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68 first round victory with every vantage point taken by a packed crowd. Isner did fall to the ground in disbelief when he won. The two players hugged over the next, and Mahut went back and sunk into his chair and covered his head with a towel.

Mahut said that it was just amazing to play today. The crowd during the last three days has been amazing. Everyone was just completely fantastic. John deserved the win, as he served unbelievably.

Of course, both men had an amazing serve. Isner served 112 aces and Mahut served 103. This totally smashed the old world record of 78 held by Ivo Karlovic. The match also smashed other records including the longest set, longest match, most games in a match, and most games in a set.
