American Airlines to Offer Early Boarding for a Price
by Ted Harris June 17th, 2010
According to reports, American Airlines is going to be offering early boarding, for a charge. American Airlines is hoping to increase its revenue by selling early boarding privileges to passengers. This new service, which is being called “Your Choice,” will allow travelers to also stand by for earlier flights at no charge on the same departure day. The new program also gives passengers a $75 discount off the regular service charge if they wish to make changes to their flight.
The introductory price for this service is going to range from $9 to $19. American Airlines did say that the prices are going to be specific to whatever route the passenger buys tickets for. In fact, later this summer, passengers will be able to pay a flat fee of just $10 if they wish to be in the first boarding group. This is regardless of flight length, markets or routing. Although this is great information, people will have to wait until this flat fee is released.
The executive vice president of marketing at American Airlines, Dan Garton, said that this Your Choice program is designed to help travelers customize their preferences. He also said that the airline hopes to add more to Your Choice options in the near future.
For the people that do not know, Dan Garton was also just named the president and CEO of AMR’s regional carrier, American Eagle. This was a big promotion for Dan and one that the company felt very strong about.
This new Your Choice program could prove to be very popular with travelers. However, this still looks like a way for airlines to make more money off extra charges.
