British Airways Finally Gets Official Strike Dates
by Isabel Taylor March 15th, 2010
It now appears that British Airways has officially been given the strike dates by the cabin crew. Apparently the cabin crew, which is being represented by the Unite union, is preparing to strike later on this month. This could spell bad news for both British Airways and many travelers as well.
Following months of failed negotiations, British Airways cabin crew have finally confirmed their walkout dates. The members of the Unite union will walk out for three days starting March 20th and then again for four days starting March 27th. The union had originally ruled out a strike over the Easter holiday season.
Of course, the bad news does not stop there for British Airways or its travelers. In fact, the union went on to warn that there could be further action on April 14th if a resolution is not agreed on before then. The union is banking on the fact that British Airways will be ready to take a different stand on their situation after the strike.
The union chose to take industrial action following a ballot in late February in which 81 percent of British Airways’ cabin crew voted in favor of the strike. However, another ballot will be taking place on the new offer from British Airways.
If this new proposal is accepted by the cabin crew members, then it could put an end to the strike this month. However, it’s important for travelers to not get their hopes up about this due to the fact that it’s unlikely that the cabin crew will accept this new deal. In fact, the union is not recommending that the staff accept it.
