Car Hire Shortages Announced to Holidaymakers
by Amy Drew February 25th, 2010
It now appears that holidaymakers around Europe are being warned about a possible shortage of rental cars. This shortage is expected to happen come Easter and the summer holiday season. Travelers are being urged to go ahead and book their car hire well ahead of time. This goes double for people who are traveling to popular tourist destinations or are planning to pick up a vehicle at the airport.
Just last year, a number of firms in southern Spain reported a failure to meet demand. They had been forced to reduce their fleets, because they could not secure sufficient credit to buy new cars. Other reports highlighted long delays at airport car hire firms. These long waits will even apply to people who had pre-booked their cars.
However, there were also shortages in parts of Italy, Greece and France. The British Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association believes that this is likely to be another problems this year. The chief executive of this association, John Lewis, said that rental companies are always trying to look ahead and estimate demand for peak periods. With finance in short supply and new vehicle prices rising, these companies cannot afford the cars that they need.
Experts are suggesting that people should use car hire comparison sites to make sure that they are getting the best deal on car hire. People who refuse to use these kinds of sites could end up paying way too much for a car during these peak times. People who spend just a little time online comparing car hire websites will be able to save themselves a lot of money in the end.
