Airlines all over the world are dealing with the possibility of a strike. It’s almost as if all the workers, from different airlines, got together and decided that it’s time to go on strike. Well another airline that is joining the long list of airlines dealing with strike threats is Lufthansa.

Apparently the German flag carrier is now dealing with a possible strike threat just like British Airways and American Airlines. In Germany, Vereinigung Cockpit, the pilots trade union, has announced its plans for industrial action next week. Pilots are expected to walk out for four days from Monday. In this case, it would be among the most severe strikes that Germany has seen recently.

The pilots are currently worried about possible job cuts following a sharp downturn in passenger numbers. Recent acquisitions by Lufthansa, including British Midland and Austria Airlines, could also see German jobs transferred overseas, according to the pilots. Vereinigung Cockpit officiate Ilona Ritter explained that the strike was a last resort after months of negotiations with the airline. He said that Lufthansa could end this very quickly if they would come to the union.

The strike, which will also include pilots at Lufthansa Cargo and Germanwings, was supported by over 90 percent of those who had taken part in the ballot. Germanwings is the low cost carrier of Lufthansa. If the strike goes through, more then 4,000 pilots could be walking out.

Right now strikes in the airline industry are a very common thing. It is not shocking to most that Lufthansa has joined the list of airlines that now have to deal with this ongoing threat.
