UK Tourism Could Suffer This Year From Overseas Holidays
by Natalie Cooper February 18th, 2010
According to reports form the Association of Independent Tour Operators, Britain could suffer this year as far as tourism goes. This is because many Brits may be looking at traveling overseas this year instead of opting for staycations like they did last year.
Reports suggest that Brits who tried out staycations last year, which means they spent their holidays visiting parks and sites within the UK, are more keen on traveling around for 2010. A spokesman for the Association of Independent Tour Operators, Ian Braldy, said that the Middle East is emerging as a top holiday destination this year. This could even be more true due to the fact that the euro and sterling exchange rate are more favorable.
As the economy picks back up, more people are going to feel safer about traveling overseas. Of course, it is likely that this growth in confidence will return slowly. Thus, by the end of the year, more and more Brits will continue to travel outside the UK for their holiday getaways.
These comments come just after a report from aviation research group OAG revealed that airline capacity grew for the sixth consecutive month this February. Thus, airlines are starting to prepare for more people to start traveling again.
A total of 272.2 million seats were available for booking this past month. The report showed that this was an increase of 5 percent when compared to February of 2009. However, it is likely that people that are traveling will be looking for the best deals that they can find. It is unlikely that families will be paying for high class hotels or expensive airline tickets.
