Reports now show that the worst train crash to happen in Belgium in more than 30 years has now left 25 people dead and dozens more injured. This crash happened when two commuter trains collided during rush hour.

Eurostar has had to suspend their services between London and Brussels following the head on collisions. Local police have already come forward and confirmed a number of casualties. However, they did note that the full amount of casualties is not yet known.

Rescuers that were sent in to save people from the overturned carriages had to battle freezing temperatures for hours. Reports went as far as to say that doctors were carrying out amputations right at the scene.

The rail track operator, Infrabel, said that the two trains had crashed head on. One of the trains was traveling from Leuven to Brine le Comet, and the other was moving from Quievrain to Liege. The two trains collided at Buizingen, near Halle. Reports do suggest that there could have been a third train involved somehow.

The actual cause of the crash is not yet known. However, snowfall over the past few days has caused severe disruptions to transport links. It is possible that the snowfall somehow could be linked back to this crash. However, nothing is for sure yet, and nothing will be known until more investigations are carried out.

Eurostar went on to say that services in and out of Brussels are completely suspended until further notice. The company said that it is possible that services will remain suspended all day Tuesday. However, the Paris-London routes are not affected by the event.
