According to reports and independent research done by Greenlight, which is the UK’s leading award winning search marketing agency, Ryanair has lost almost 60 percent of its viability online since September of 2009. The Flights Sector Report analyzed key search terms that are used when UK consumers go online to find a flight. It goes on to determine the best positioned and, hence, the most visible website in this sector based on the volume for each keyword.

Ryanair was able to take the fourth position in the viability stakes in the third quarter of 2009. However, in the fourth quarter it saw a dramatic shift. Apparently Easyjet found itself in the fourth spot and Ryanair fell down to spot 32. Of course, Ryanair is not the only company that went down on the list. Apparently CheapFlights also saw a 25 percent decease in search viability dropping from position two to eight.

Greenlight went on to identify the 3,2000 most commonly used search terms by UK web users. They cumulatively delivered 28.1 million searches for flight related terms in December of 2009. The term “flight” of course accounted for 59 percent of all flight relates searches. Short haul destinations, mostly within Europe, accounted for almost 5.3 million searches in December.

In natural searches and with 89 percent share of voice in December 2009, SkyScanner ranked at position one on the page one of Google for 445 of the 3,200 keywords analyzed, meaning that SkyScanner comes up the most when people are searching the internet for flights. In this new age of technology, being found online is very important, and SkyScanner seems to have that aspect of its business under control.
