Lastminute Develops Talking Phrasebooks for iPhone

During the 3 weeks that the new iPhone has been launched, Lastminute has sponsored free Talking Phrasebooks, which were developed by Coolgorilla and have received more than 350,000 downloads, making them some the more popular applications for the new technology. Right now, the Talking Phrasebooks are available in Spanish, Italian, German, and French. These intuitive applications make pronunciation attempts that are embarrassing a problem of the past since the iPhone can speak a selection of foreign phrases, which handy when traveling abroad, by using recordings from real speakers of that particular native language.

Thanks to the sponsorship agreement with Lastminute, iPhone users can download the applications for free while other publishers charge a fee of 9.99 dollars for products that are similar to it. In comparison, Coolgorilla and Lastminute have given more than 3.5 million dollars of free software away already. Roy Forsdick, the Managing Director for Coolgorilla, commented that the customer feedback they have received has been huge. They have had e-mails numbering in the hundreds from users of the iPhone, he continued, thanking them for the phrasebook and asking them for more languages. He has promised that Greek and Portuguese versions will be available to customers by the end of this month.

The great thing about this application is that customers don’t have to have the latest iPod Touch or iPhone to use the Talking Phrasebook. Sony Ericsson and Nokia users are also able to download the application right onto their headsets by going to the Coolgorilla website using their mobile phone. For those people who want to stick to using their trusty iPod, the application’s 6 languages are available for download as a Podcast that is super-enhanced through iTunes.
