British Airways Thinks About Flying to Innsbruck All Year
by Amy Drew February 5th, 2010
British Airways has just recently announced that its new route to Innsbruck has proved to be very popular with skiers. On top of this, the number of passengers flying to Innsbruck seems like it just keeps increasing with thousands of people heading to the Alpine ski resort in Austria.
Back in December of 2009, British Airways launched its new flight to Innsbruck. This was going to be a five a week service to the former Winter Olympic city. It was the fifth new route to be launched by British Airways from Gatwick this winter. During the current winter schedule, the airline departs London Gatwick about 5 times weekly on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The airport manager at Innsbruck, Judith Struck, said that Innsbruck is situated in the middle of one of the most beautiful areas in all of Europe. It is completely surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Alps, and it is like a haven for winter sports lovers. The area has nine ski areas that provide different terrain for all levels of skiers. Each of the areas has free shuttle buses that travel there from the city. Also, the Stubai and Hintertux glaciers actually guarantee year round snow and make it a superb place for a winter holiday.
Due to the popularity of this resort city, British Airways is now considering the possibility of flying to the city throughout the whole year. The area offers a marvelous backdrop for hiking holidays and summer leisure activities as well. This route also has the potential to attract Austrians who love traveling to Britain as well.
