Although the threat of a strike is still up in the air, it seems that British Airways passengers will not have to worry about the possibility of a strike happening over Easter. The Unite union, which is the union that is representing the airline’s cabin crew, said that there is no action that would occur over Easter. In fact, a spokesman for Unite, Len McCluskey, said that he wanted families to be able to plan their travel arrangements in confidence.

However, British Airways snapped back at this remark, saying that it offered very little comfort for travelers. This is because a strike could still start as soon as March 1st. Other experts point out that an Easter strike was seen as the union’s biggest weapon over British Airways. Many expected the union to use this weapon to get British Airways to back down over cost cuts and changes to its work practices.

Other experts say that this is an attempt by the union to no longer be viewed as the bad guy. Until now, British Airways has done a great job at making the union seems like the bad guy. A lot of this had to do with the fact that the union tried to call a strike over Christmas. This did not set well with the public. However, British Airways was able to avoid the strike over Christmas by taking it to the courts. It was there that British Airways pointed out that the strike ballot was illegal, because it used members who no longer worked for the airline.

A new strike ballot among the cabin crew will be opened on January 25th and will conclude on February 22nd. This time the union is making sure that only current members of British Airways vote in the ballot.
