E-Clear Ordered to Explain Withholding Money From Globespan
by Isabel Taylor January 14th, 2010
A judge has just recently ordered for the payment processing company, which is connected to the collapse of the Scottish carrier Globespan, to prove that it has the £35 million that is owed to the company within the next two days. E-Clear has been ordered to prove that it has this money, which is allegedly held back from the airline, causing it to collapse last month.
Due to the collapse of the airline, almost 4,500 people were left stranded without a way home just before Christmas. On top of this, the collapse of this airline, which was a Scottish airlines, has also led to 550 redundancies.
The auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has been asking a judge to put E-Clear into administration in a bid to release these funds that it owes to the company. They went on to claim that E-Clear has been stalling on £35 million in payments that are owed for credit card payments to the airline.
At High Court on Tuesday, Mr Justice Floyd warned E-Clear that it should not dispose of assets before the case resumes next week. The joint administrator of Globespan and the head of business recovery services at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Bruce Cartwright, said that they are very satisfied that the judge was able to recognize their concerns and has put in place a process that will clarify these concerns very shortly.
Just last week it was also revealed that E-Clear’s owner, Elias Elia, is also facing another legal claim from a Canadian operator called Go Travel Direct. Thus, things are starting to look bad for Elias Elia and his E-Clear company.
