It now seems that Air France-owned Cityjet has reported a nice little increase in its passengers in the last quarter of 2009. This is a claim that is odd for any airlines right now, given the current economy.

Flights from its London City hub to Antwerp and Luxembourg grew by 10 percent in December, while Scottish routes saw an overall increase of 23 percent on Q3 2008. CityJet’s strongest route was London to Amsterdam. This was a route that flew almost 250,000 passengers last year alone.

The airline said that it will be increasing its capacity on this route for the winter of 2010 schedule. It will also be increasing its capacity on flights to Dublin, Edinburgh and Paris.

The CEO of CityJet, Geoffrey O’Byrne White, said that this is a remarkable turnaround considering the figures taken from the first 9 months of 2009 when the economic downturn was in full force and was crushing the travel industry. He went on to say that CityJet is set to go from strength to strength in 2010 following the successful launch of its Milan Linate route, which is already showing a strong uptake.

CityJet has also launched its first ever January sale to help keep the ball moving. This sale will run until January 31st with travel from January 25 to October 31. This is CityJet’s way of trying to stay competitive in the new year. Right now airlines are still fighting for passengers, and CityJet believes that this sale would be a good way to win over some new passengers.
