One of the most well known video game characters in the world will now be making his way to Alton Towers. Right now reports show that, while Alton Towers is preparing to reopen for February Half Term, there is talk that the Spinball Whizzer attraction at the park is being redesigned this year to be a Sonic the Hedgehog theme. It has some Sonic fans wondering if the ride will be called Sonic Spinball after the famous Sonic pinball game that came out on the Sega many years ago.

Some people have pointed out that this relaunch of the ride is all for the Sonic series itself. Sources go on to suggest that this Sonic theme ride will help to build up excitement for the new 2D Sonic title that is due out this year, or may even simply tie into the Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing game.

Of course, Sonic fans are not the only ones that say this new Sonic ride is coming. In fact, one Alton Towers fansite, TowersTimes, has confirmed this new ride in the resorts brochure for the new season.

Although it may seem a bit funny that the blue hedgehog is making its way to Alton Towers, some are quick to point out that this is not the first time that Sonic has made an appearance at Alton Towers. Sonic used to be part of the Small World Like Toyland Tours attraction, which opened back in 1994. Sonic remained their until 2006, when the ride was changed to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
