New polls have just revealed that the junk food habits, smoking and alcohol consumption habits of people in the hospitality business are the worst in the UK. People in the hospitality business seem to eat more junk food and ready meals, smoke more cigarettes, and drink more alcohol than people from any other profession in the UK. The survey was carried out by Medicash.

A sales and marketing director for the health care company Medicash, Peter Laurism, urged people who are working in the the UK hospitality industry to reconsider their lifestyle choices before it’s too late. He said that, for the people who work in a sector renowned for unsociable hours, they must try to make a conscious effort to be healthy. These are people that will need to invest in their health. These companies will want their staff to do so as well, since healthier people are more productive.

Oddly enough, chefs topped the list as being the most unhealthily in the UK. However, they were closely followed by farmers, who apparently, on average, smoke 58 cigarettes per week and drink eight alcoholic drinks.

What is even more shocking is that UK chefs eat an average of 12 snacks, like chocolate bars, crisps and so on, each week. They also eat at least one ready meal or takeaway meal as well. Mr Lauris noted that he was surprised to see chefs at the top of the list. These are people that most would expect to be using healthy eating habits. Either way, it would appear that the UK hospitality industry seems to be one of the toughest markets to work in, and the health of the people that work in this industry is suffering because of it.
