Although there are nothing but long lines now at London St Pancras, Eurostar says that it is confident that people will still be able to reach their destination before Christmas. The company went on to issue a statement saying it is running services from now until Christmas to get people where they need to go.

The company says that it will be running on Christmas Eve as well and still remains confident that there will be sufficient seats for everyone who wishes to travel. A Eurostar spokeswoman had just recently urged people to wait until afternoon before heading off to the station. This is because the stations are full, and they do not want people waiting out in the cold. Despite the friendly note, passengers still came before the station even open to try and be one of the first to get a seat on a train.

The normally high speed Channel Tunnel service was brought to a stop last Friday when the company said that snow that was fluffier than expected got into the trains’ engines and short circuited the circuit boards. This stranded tens of thousands of people on both sides of the Channel.

Travel comparison sites have said that they have seen a huge spike in the number of searches for travel from Paris and Brussels. Even ferry operators noted that they have seen a huge surge in bookings as well since people are looking for alternative routes.

It will be interesting to see if Eurostar will be able to get people to their destinations or not. After all, there are a ton of people who want to be home for the holidays.
