UK Cruise Market Could be Looking at Big Upturn for 2010
by Howard Williams December 2nd, 2009
According to some new reports from the Passenger Shipping Association, the UK could be looking at a big upturn in terms of cruise travel next year. Right now the association is claiming that a record 1.65 million UK passengers could choose a cruise holiday next year. If this holds true, then it could be an increase of 6.5 percent over this year’s numbers.
The Passenger Shipping Association said that that they blame two things for this big upturn, and those are value and variety. The association’s director, Bill Gibbons, said that the travel industry has been hit hard, but some parts more than others. For example, the cruise industry has not been hit nearly as hard as the airline industry.
Gibbons went on to say that, although the cruise industry is not recession proof, it is in better standings. This is because people want value for their money now. Since things like meals, accommodations, and sometimes even flights are included in cruise tickets, people know that they are getting a better deal for their money.
Experts point out that it is much cheaper to take a cruise for a week than it could be to take a week vacation to some tropical resort. This is because accommodations and food would cost way more than what the actual price of the cruise tickets would. Since people want more value for their money, they are researching things more and finding that cruises are much more cost efficient than people used to think. The scary price tag per ticket is not so bad once they see what is all included for a week or two week journey.
