Reports now show that Rafael Nadal has been chosen to be the face for a campaign for the Balearic Islands. Apparently this campaign is set to make the Balearic Islands the first choice for holidaymakers interested in sports and event tourism.

Rafael Nadal, who is a tennis ace, is a native of the islands. Thus, he is the perfect person to be the front for the campaign. Although the campaign itself may be reaching out to a different crowd, it is still pushing the things that the islands are known for the most, which is sun and beach.

The islands are very keen to the idea of getting more people to visit. This goes double ever since the islands saw that their UK arrivals had dropped by 12 percent so far this year. The managing director of the Balearic Islands Tourist Office, Susanna Sciacovelli, said that it is very important to spread travel across the seasons. They want to be the top mind for golfers, which should help to keep the number of tourists up across the whole year.

She went on to say that extra funds were being diverted into tourism promotion specifically targeting the UK. After all, the UK is the islands’ biggest market source by far. This will include campaigns and promotions that highlight the islands’ easy access from the UK. This includes short flight times and excellent infrastructures.

Spain and the Balearic Islands have been hit very hard by the economic downturn. Of course, the poor value of the pound has not held visitors from Britain who really want to make their way to the islands.
