EasyJet Pulls In Flight Magazine Over Inconsiderate Photo Shoot
by Andrew Drew November 25th, 2009
New reports now show that EasyJet pulled all of their copies of its in flight magazine, easyJet Traveler, following the publication of a fashion spread photographed at the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin. The fashion spread itself was shot in the Filed of Stelae, which is a German memorial in commemoration of the annihilation of Jews in the Second World War.
EasyJet has tried to distance itself from the inconsiderate shoot, saying that it was not aware of the shoot until it appeared in print. The low cost carrier noted that it was now reviewing its contract for the in flight magazine with Ink Publishing.
An easyJet spokesman said that the airline takes great pride on bringing together a wide range of cultures and beliefs. He noted that the airline was just appalled by the insensitive and inconsiderate photo shoot. The overall aim of the photo shoot was just to highlight some of Berlin’s iconic landmarks and certainly meant no offense, the spokesman added.
Ink Publishing, said in a statement, that they sincerely apologize to anyone that may have been offended by the shoot. The publisher went onto say that the photo shoot aimed at trying to get people to visit the site themselves. The shoot was intended, not only to promote local design talent, but also to raise awareness of what Germany has to offer.
Of course, some experts feel that it would be a mistake for Easyjet to pull the magazine for good. More than half a million people fly with easyJet every month. About 280,000 of these passengers leave with the in flight magazine. Thus, people enjoy reading it on the plane.
